I got the summer job I hoped/expected I would get... I've been hired by Student Legal Assistance to work the summer legal aid clinic for Banff/Canmore. Another student and I will be stealing a load of office equipment from the university, renting some space in Banff and basically running a two-person small-town law firm for the summer. We'll do mainly criminal law, but also some wrongful dismissal claims, landlord-tenant, small lawsuits, some family stuff.
I'd been hoping to be hired for the Calgary office, as Banff brings up a whole set of logistical questions - will I rent a place out there (there's a housing allowance included with the job)? Will I commute more than an hour every day? What will do I with Arwen? But I expected to be assigned to Banff, since I was the only person with volunteer experience out there who applied. Andrew and I will be thinking through those obstacles over the days to come, and meanwhile, I'm just thinking about what an incredible learning experience this job is going to be.
And now, I'm on Reading Break.. aptly named, as I have so much reading to do... and a paper to write... and an ambitious idea about finishing painting the condo, while still getting lots of quality time with Arwen and Casta (cause that's the name we finally settled on).
